Video of the Week: Glove Tossing In Oregon

College baseball season is underway, and the Oregon Ducks are off to a hot start. The #15 team in the nation currently sits at 10-3, and has high expectations headed into Pac-12 play.

In a short two game series with Cal State Northridge, pitcher Jeff Gold (expected to get drafted) made what might be the most unique play of the year.

With a runner on first, Gold snagged a comebacker up the middle, but found himself unable to turn the double play because the ball was stuck in the webbing in his glove. Still unable to get the ball free, Gold took off his glove and tossed it to first base.

Right before the glove made its way to first baseman Ryon Healy, the ball popped free and Healy was able to snare it out of the air right before the runner was safe.

This turned out to be a pivotal play for Gold, who’s crafty thinking prevented CSUN having runners on first and second. Gold finished the game allowing one unearned run over seven innings, lowing his season ERA to an incredible 0.51.
