Random Athlete of the Day- Chris Duncan
St. Louis baseball fans hear the last name ‘Duncan’ and think of Tony La Russa’s legendary pitching coach Dave Duncan. However, let us not forget about his son, Chris Duncan, a former Cardinal and World Series Champion. Duncan won his ring with the Cardinals in 2006 and took the organization’s Rookie of the Year award batting .293 with 22 bombs.
He played three more seasons with the Cardinals and was eventually traded to the Boston Red Sox in 2009. The trade came after Duncan never truly reached his old numbers after a herniated disk took him out for the end of the 2008 season. The Red Sox then released him in late August of 2009 and he signed with the Washington Nationals in early 2010. But Duncan’s last ever performance on a major league baseball diamond was with the Cardinals on July 20th, 2009.
After failing to make another major league game, Duncan turned to radio work in St. Louis on WXOS, he also started making appearances on the Cardinals’ TV network. Since 2011, Duncan has been working in St. Louis as a broadcaster. Unfortunately for Duncan, in 2012 he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and has been battling off the field since then. We wish him all the best.
