Jon “Bones” Jones: How Good is He?
In every sport there are athletes who elevate to a level of greatness that us fans call: phenomenal. The UFC officially has its new phenom with its Light Heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones. For a 24-year old, Jones is considered a kid in this sport of men, but his age has yet to prove to be a weakness. Jon Jones is the real deal, and all fans should fully expect him to dominate this division for time to come. He has now successfully defended his belt against three of the division’s best, and the talent pool seems to keep getting smaller as Jones has simply been on a tear (for lack of a better word). Even though Dana White has already got Dan Henderson waiting for his chance at glory, I don’t see Hendo being any what of an issue for the champ. Welcome to the dynasty of Jon “Bones” Jones.
Jones is currently 17 – 1 in his mixed martial arts career but that lone loss was due to an illegal elbow in a fight against Matt Hamil that he absolutely dominated. It hasn’t been too long since the UFC had its first phenom in Vitor Belfort. Fans were utterly shocked in how well Belfort performed at such a young age in such a competitive sport. But unfortunately, Belfort saw a series of misfortunes in his life inside and outside the cage that prevented him from elevating to invincible status. With Jones on the other hand, I don’t know what could hold him back.
Bones was raised in a proper Christian family with supporting parents and two brothers who are also known for their athleticism. Even though the Jones family lived in a lower socio-economic neighborhood filled with violence and crime, the family kept close and raised their children with superb morals. It’s really no shock that Jon’s older brother Arthur is a current Baltimore Raven, and his younger brother Chandler is expected to be a first round draft pick in this NFL draft. The family breeds the top athletes, which explains why the sons have done so well.
So how good is Jon “Bones” Jones and who is realistically going to stop this animal? Maybe a move up to Heavyweight… but who knows? Expect big things from this guy in years to come.
