Random Athlete Of The Day- Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump is from Greenbow, Alabama and was one heck of an athlete. When Gump was a child he was stuck with a low IQ and restricted by his leg braces. He later grew out of his braces and became arguably the fastest runner in all of Alabama. Luckily he was spotted running by Coach Bear Bryant and immediately earned a scholarship to play football at the University of Alabama. He was their kick returner and was named an All-American. His honor got him a trip to meet John F. Kennedy at the White House. He probably could have played in the NFL but instead enlisted in the Army, and went on to fight in the Vietnam War where he became a war hero.
Once he came back from the war, Gump became an extremely talented ping-pong player. He became so good that he was able to play ping-pong for the US Army where he would go onto play against countries like China. His ping-pong skills would allow him to meet Richard Nixon (3rd president he met).
After Forrest stopped playing ping-pong he went on to become a very successful “shrimper”. He then invested his money in Apple and became even richer.
After he was worth millions Forrest decided to run across America for no reason at all. This led to national media attention and a huge cult following of joggers. Forrest was allegedly responsible for “shit happens” bumper stickers, and “Have a nice day” smiley t-shirts due to his conversations and encounters on the run.
Forrest stopped running, got married to his childhood sweetheart Jenny, and took care of their child.
Although his story is great, I think we all know Forrest should have played football professionally.
